KAPPA GAMMA OMEGA CHAPTER (KGO) of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority was chartered on April 27, 1974 at Casa Munras Hotel in Monterey, California. There are 15 Charter members with the first President of the Chapter being Altheia Powell. The charter members are Debbie Anthony, Marsha Bembry, Wilma Campbell, Doris Drummond, Bertha Hutchins, Charlie Knight, Iva McDuffy, Leola Mitchell, Sandra Moore, Ester Nance, Beverly Poole, Altheia Powell, Alberta Renfro, Mary Story and Rose Mary Wallace.
KGO immediately began implementing programs in the Monterey/Seaside community. The Chapter sponsored many programs and events dedicated to advancing public knowledge and interest in education, health, music, art and theater. The Chapter collaborated with the Cleveland Job Corps for Women, partnered with the Reading is Fundamental (RIF) Program, supported families in need, hosted holiday parties for underprivileged children and established a tutoring program. KGO continues to impact the Monterey Peninsula community by providing enriching programs that support the international initiatives of the Sorority.
